We started the company from my kitchen table – with Tower Hamlets Food Safety regulations pinned to the door and boxes of tins stacked in Clara’s garage.
The humble beginnings were a joyous way to get started, but it wasn’t long before we outgrew the kitchen. My home was fast becoming souk-like, and as delightful it was living in a clove and cumin fug, the time had come to find a bigger space.
Luckily for us, fate intervened and we came across a warehouse on Fish Island. We looked round Studio A and immediately knew we’d found our new home – nestled somewhere between the A12 and The River Lea in the shadow of the Olympic Park.
So it was that we hatched a move into Autumn Yard. Our new home has enough storage for us to import spices by the pallet and to fulfil more orders on site. It means that we can start accepting requests from cafes who have been keen to stock our spices and we’re feeling set-up for Christmas with a super-efficient packing corner.
When we started Rooted Spices six months ago we never anticipated being in a warehouse already – so a huge thank you to everyone who has helped. From those generous few who helped us lug bags of spices (cupboards, heat sealers etc) from Bethnal Green to Hackney Wick … as well everyone who has bought a spice tin and supported us on our journey so far.
