Our House Blend is inspired by the Turkish tradition of using an everyday table spice to liberally sprinkle over dishes. It’s best used as a finishing flavour – a little like salt or pepper – and makes pretty much everything taste better.

With this blend it couldn’t be easier to make a daal from scratch. It contains all the spices you need for a basic daal, meaning that there’s no need for spooning and measuring out. Have a delicious-tasting daal every time.

Shichimi Togarashi is a mixture of seven spices and botanicals, which is used as a finishing flavour in Japanese cuisine. It was traditionally sold by merchants who made bespoke blends for their customers.

‘True Cinnamon’ is one of our favourite spices. It’s warm and fragrant and has a canny way of bringing a sweetness to savoury dishes and introducing a savoury note to sweet desserts.

Kashmiri chilli powder is prized for its bright red colour and delicate, fruity heat. This isn’t a punchy chilli – expect a lively and restrained hotness, rather than eye-watering heat.

It’s true that all peppercorns come from the same plant, but just like wine, the soil and climate (‘terroir’) has a huge impact. Our pepper comes from Tellicherry, a region famed for producing a large, fruity and aromatic variety of peppercorns.

We’re always striving to track down the best spices and work as directly with growers as possible. There is always room for improvement. So, when we got a tip-off about an organic nutmeg plantation on the east coast of Grenada – The Spice Island – it was too tempting not to go check out.

NEW Cardamom Supplier: Alta Verapaz, Guatemala

There are few things we enjoy more than a Whatsapp from one of our growers or buyers. Francisco Lavagnino’s are amongst our favourites.
