Spiced Porridge

What better way to start the day than with a warming bowl of cinnamon-topped porridge? It’s a natural sweetener, and also loaded with antioxidants making it a marvellous morning routine.


100g porridge oats
200ml milk of your choice
200ml water
½ tsp Rooted ground cinnamon
¼ tsp Rooted nutmeg, freshly grated

Optional Toppings:
Handful of hazelnuts or almonds
Dollop of nut butter


To make the porridge, add the oats, the spices, the milk, water to a pan and stir.

Cook slowly for about 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until the porridge is a smooth and creamy. You may need to add more liquid as the porridge is cooking if getting stodgy.

Serve in bowls with your topping of choice.

NB: If you have time, you can soak the oats in 250ml of water overnight. When ready to cook, cook the oats with the water they were soaked in. You will probably need about 100ml less water, depending on the variety of oats.
