Since winning the American Express #BackedBy campaign, we’ve been working with our mentor, chef Gizzi Erskine, who has developed new recipes using our spices, supported us over an exciting few months and helped us grow in in so many ways.
On a chilly evening in late-November the end of our official partnership was marked by an event held at Magpie. The Mayfair restaurant filled up with journalists and influencers … and we had a stiff drink (mulled wine and a spiced toddy, of course!) to calm our nerves before doing a Q&A panel.
The Magpie chefs then used our spices to recreate Gizzi’s root vegetable blugur and her South Indian fish curry as well as making versions with supermarket spices, so guests could do a taste test. It was a brilliant way to show how much of a difference quality spices can make, and everyone left with a goody bag containing a few spices and a copy of Gizzi’s latest book, Slow.
We wound up the evening by doing a final piece of filming, in a video which can be viewed HERE… of course, we know what we both said, but it’s not until the edit comes through that we get to see Gizzi’s filming and hear her kind words: “I’m going to be their mentor as long as they want me” — the best possible end, confirming that it’s only just the beginning!
